This office block's supply and extract AHU had reached the point where ageing components were starting to affect performance and reliability. Rather than recommend a full replacement, our engineers carried out a targeted refurbishment, restoring the unit to full working order while improving its long-term efficiency.

The Challenge
The hotel's existing kitchen extraction fan had reached the end of its usable life. Not only was it becoming increasingly unreliable, but the noise it generated had started to travel through the building's structure, disturbing guests staying in the rooms directly above the kitchen — a serious issue for any hotel relying on guest satisfaction and repeat bookings. The hotel needed a replacement that would resolve the noise problem permanently, without shutting down kitchen operations for an extended period. Any solution also had to fit within the existing space and ductwork, ruling out an off-the-shelf unit and requiring a bespoke approach from design through to installation.
Design & Manufacture
Our team designed a new kitchen extraction unit to match the exact specification and footprint of the space, ensuring a straightforward swap for the outdated system. The unit was manufactured off-site as a flatpack build, allowing for quality control away from site constraints and reducing the time needed on-site for installation.
Flatpack Installation
The unit was transported to site in flatpack form and assembled and installed on location, keeping disruption to the kitchen and hotel operations to an absolute minimum. Working around the hotel's schedule, our engineers ensured the installation was completed efficiently without impacting day-to-day service.
Fan Sound Test
Once installed, the new unit was fully tested to confirm correct airflow, performance, and noise levels, ensuring it met the standard required for a much quieter, more efficient operation than the unit it replaced.
The Result
The hotel now has a brand new, purpose-built kitchen extraction unit that resolves the noise issue completely — guests in the rooms above no longer experience any disruption from kitchen operations below. The bespoke flatpack design meant installation was completed with minimal downtime to the kitchen, keeping the hotel running as normal throughout. The hotel's management now has a quieter, more efficient system in place, along with the peace of mind that it was built and fitted to their exact specification by an experienced team.
